Our People

Our Centre’s team is committed to researching and educating about new forms of interdisciplinary, extraordinary and creative leadership.

Its team members came together, from diverse disciplines, to build the new generation of creative leaders.

Our Centre’s leaders

The Centre’s Director is Professor Neil Maiden. He coordinates the Centre’s strategic direction and leadership. Neil’s background is at the intersection of design and computer science.

Dr Sara Jones is Director of the Centre’s interdisciplinary Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership. She leads this most innovative and interdisciplinary course. Sara’s background is in user-centred design.

Professor Clive Holtham leads the Centre’s learning research. His research enables leaders to make sense of the challenges of a world that is increasingly complex, unstructured and dynamic. Clive’s background is in management learning and leadership.

Mary Ann Kernan leads arts education and research in the Centre. She draws on her expertise as Associate Dean for Student Experience in the School of Arts of Social Sciences to shape the Centre’s offerings. Mary Ann has a background in publishing.

The Centre’s law lead is Dr Luke McDonagh. Based in the City Law School and coming from a Law background, Luke ensures that complex creativity challenges around copyright and intellectual property law inform all of our research and education.

Dr Maire Kerrin is the Centre’s psychology lead, pulling together knowledge of research and practice as a Consultant in the Work Psychology Group. A Chartered Occupational Psychologist, Maire brings expertise in assessment, development and innovation.

Andy Wilkins in the Centre’s service lead. A Principal of Perspectiv, his decades of training and educating interdisciplinary creative leadership shape our service offerings. Andy’s background is in business, creative problem solving, innovation and leadership.

Managing our Centre’s research

An experienced team of post-doctoral fellows – led by Dr Amanda Brown, James Lockerbie and Dr Konstantinos Zachos – manage the Centre’s projects listed in our research.

Our Centre’s interdisciplinary academics

Other members of our highly interdisciplinary Centre are drawn from all of our University’s Schools as well as external organisations, and bring expertise in creativity, the creative industries, creative writing, design, engineering, entrepreneurship, gamification, healthcare, information visualisation, innovation, journalism, leadership, learning, management, marketing, play, cognitive psychology, social care and strategy.

Our Centre’s External Advisory Board

The External Advisory Board provides the Centre with strategic oversight. The chair is Professor Steven Kyffen, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Business and Enterprise) at Northumbria University. Current Advisory Board members include Professor Alan Blackwell (University of Cambridge), Claire Bridges (NowGoCreate), Brian Dorval (Think First Serve), John Loder (NESTA), Frank Milani (innovator), Andy Wilkins (Perspectiv) and Evelyn Wilson (The Culture Capital Exchange).
