Dean’s Seasonal Message 2023

Dear Members of the Bayes community, Christmas tree in the Bayes Business School reception

As 2023 draws to a close, I would like to send you my very best wishes for the New Year.
This time of year is an ideal opportunity for us all to reflect on what has happened in the last 12 months, celebrating our achievements and looking back on the lessons we have learnt – both personally and professionally.

It has been another fruitful year at Bayes, from teaching accolades and academic recognition to student success and the long-awaited return of in-person alumni networking events around the world.

Our courses placed highly across various globally respected rankings and university guide publications, which is testament to the continued excellence of teaching staff across programmes and the positive engagement of our dedicated alumni. This has culminated in Bayes being named as one of the top five business schools in the UK according to the latest Top 90 Financial Times European Business Schools Ranking 2023, and up two places to 27th in Europe.
We have also made significant strides in our efforts to develop our curriculum and the experience of the Bayes community. Earlier this year we launched the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council, and added new scholarships to our growing portfolio in our aim of widening the opportunities that talented students have to join us.

Of course, building an environment that is successful, dynamic, diverse and inclusive is a major team effort and none of this is possible without you. Teachers and researchers who are world leaders in their field, support and administrative colleagues overseeing seamless operations, hardworking and inquisitive students, and, of course, our loyal and hugely supportive global network of alumni and partners – each one of you plays a vital role in our success, so thank you for making Bayes Business School such a special place.

It is also important to acknowledge and reflect on events that have taken place around the world in 2023. Our thoughts remain with members of our community affected by the ongoing situation in the Middle East, as well as recent events in Afghanistan, Turkey and Syria, and the war in Ukraine.

I hope next year will bring happier times.

While looking back on our successes and lessons from the year is important, it also encourages us to think forward. We must now begin to ask ourselves what we want the coming year to look like, challenge ourselves in new ways or maybe do something slightly differently.
Whatever you decide, I hope you all manage to use the festive break as an opportunity to take time to rest, recharge, reflect and return with renewed sense of purposefor the New Year.

Here’s to a wonderful 2024!

Best wishes,

Professor André Spicer
