Jeremy Chan

Course: BSc Actuarial Science

What were you doing before you came to study at City?

I was studying A-Levels in my home country Malaysia. The subjects I took were Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Economics.

Why did you decide to apply to study at City, University of London?

I applied to City because I was looking for an actuarial science programme in the UK. The Business School (formerly Cass), which is one of City’s six Schools, happened to be one of the top universities for that particular subject.

What is your favourite thing about studying at City?

My favourite thing is the amount of support the University provides. Whatever you need, the University tries to do as much as it can to help you. Some examples would be the Careers team and the academic staff.

What kind of things are you involved in outside of your course?

I am a CityBuddies leader. My job is to help new students to adjust to university life. I am also a Marketing Student Ambassador, who works during HE fairs and Open days, to answer any questions prospective students would like to ask.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

I plan to work as an actuary, as most of the other graduates from my course. Pursuing a career in the finance and banking sector is also an option.

What would be your top tip for our applicants?

Be yourself and show your passion! Good luck!
