Programme: MSc Innovation, Creativity and Leadership, 2019

Current role: Consultant, Capgemini Invent

After completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing at Lancaster University, I worked in Europe and South East Asia in account management marketing positions across different industries. However, I still wasn’t sure which career path would be best for me. The possibilities seemed endless. Given the competitive market, I knew that an Master’s is a necessity for a variety of positions in professional services. So I decided to take the step and study for an MSc to help me focus on where to I could take my career next.

During my research, I came across the MSc in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership at the Business School (formerly Cass). It’s a unique one-of-a-kind programme with a highly interdisciplinary approach, exploring creative leadership and innovation from business and the arts to law, psychology, design and digital technology. I was convinced that it would add value to my future career. In addition, another deciding factor was the international reputation combined with the location in the heart of London, which is a place I’ve always wanted to live in.

The teaching on the programme is of a very high standard and interactive workshops focus on applying the theory. The staff on the programme included published authors, an innovation consultant and a patent lawyer. As a result, you gain access to experienced industry players that provide you with their personal insights, which you can then apply to your coursework or even your everyday life.

The programme is all about personal development. It provides you with the tools to remove barriers so you can fulfil your potential in all aspects of your life. It helps you to find your strengths and passion, and understand how you’re able to fully exploit them. The MSc helps you to think differently, challenge norms, challenge yourself and actively reflect about what you need to do to improve

For me, the highlight of the programme was the thesis. It provides you with the opportunity to spend three months working on a project of your own design. In my case, I developed the conceptual design of a digital tool to help millennial couples to improve communication using a gamification approach – something I’ve always wanted to do.

The cohort was very inspiring. We were a really tight group and got to know each other really well. I’ve made great friends, we had a great time together and I’m still in touch with them.

The Careers Team was very helpful, enabling me to figure out my career ambitions. They held self-assessment tests that help you to understand how the career or the jobs you’re considering suit your personality and the way you think. They give you an objective sounding board and challenge you, which was really useful.

The MSc really helped me to figure out what I wanted to do as a job – in a career I wasn’t aware of prior to the programme. Currently, I’m working for Capgemini Invent as a consultant in the People and Organisation division, located in Munich. We prepare and support organisations, their leadership and their people for the transition into the digital age. I’m really enjoying what I’m doing now.

Overall, my experience helped me to develop myself, made me realise where my true interests lie, which is in helping people in organisations to become more creative and innovative.
