The Dean's Message

Dear Cass Community,Marianne Lewis

As we near the end of 2018, I invite you to reflect with me on the past year at Cass.  More than ever, I have been inspired by our collective impact in shaping our fields, developing our students and engaging our vibrant community.

Our research achievements have been impressive. Throughout the year, Cass thought leaders have published in leading journals, received major grants and helped leaders in industry, government and the media understand their research, enhancing policy and practice as a result.

Talking with students and parents at our graduation ceremonies I am touched by their stories. Indeed I am often reminded of the Dalai Lama’s call for education of the heart: “A peaceful world can become reality only if we educate, not just the brain, but also the heart.” By striving to pair rigorous curricula with care for the individual and our wider social purpose, we enable transformational learning. Thank you all, our academic and professional staff, for your tremendous commitment to our students.

Let us also reflect on our treasured community. Through ongoing innovation, the welcoming of new hires and initiatives such as Athena Swan, we support each other and the School. Yet our community also reaches globally – from alumni masterclasses and ambassadors to guest lectures and mentors, we support and are supported by our alumni. Our value of mutual care is contagious and can be seen via a quick glimpse on social media as Cass alumni gather for holiday celebrations in Athens, Milan, Paris, New York, Mumbai, Singapore and beyond.

As you know, earlier this month we launched the latest version of our Extraordinary Calling brand campaign. This campaign encapsulates the spirit of Cass and I encourage you to share this with your family, colleagues and friends to spread the message and further our collective impact.

On behalf of Cass, I wish you joyful holidays and a very happy New Year.

Marianne
