Cass Business School becomes a United Nations PRME Champion
Award announced at DAVOS 2018.
Cass Business School has been selected as a Champion of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). This prestigious recognition that has only been awarded to 39 other business schools around the world.
What is PRME?
The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) is a United Nations-supported initiative founded in 2007 as a platform to raise the profile of sustainability in schools around the world, and to equip today's business students with the understanding and ability to deliver change tomorrow.
As a voluntary initiative with over 650 signatories worldwide, PRME has become the largest organised relationship between the United Nations and management-related higher education institutions.
Working through a set of six principles, PRME engages business and management schools to ensure they provide future leaders with the skills needed to balance economic and sustainability goals, while drawing attention to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aligning academic institutions with the work of the UN Global Compact.
Davos 2018
Cass’s Champion award was announced at an Executive Roundtable Dinner in cooperation with Corporate Knights at the World Economic Forum in Davos, in front of over 40 Deans and CEOs.
In conjunction, Professor Paul Palmer, Associate Dean for Ethics, Sustainability and Engagement, has been elected to serve on PRME’s highest level strategic steering group, the Advisory Committee, over the next two years.
Professor Marianne Lewis, Dean of Cass Business School said:
“I am thrilled that Cass has been chosen as a UN PRME Champion. This is the right time for us, indeed for all business schools, to start thinking strategically about what higher education intuitions can do to support sustainability.
“We are at a turning point in our relationship with people and planet, and business schools can no longer shy away from thinking about their place in this relationship. At Cass we encourage our community – faculty, students and alumni - to think about their relationship with the environment.”
Professor Paul Palmer said,
“Cass’s involvement in this initiative goes beyond the general ethical drive. We believe that the integration of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals into our core activities allows us to respond to an anticipated demand for sustainable and responsible management education and produce meaningful social and economic impact.

The PRME Champions group is committed to working collaboratively to develop and promote activities that address shared barriers for the PRME community and deliver value for business and society at large.
The mission of PRME Champions is to contribute to thought and action leadership on responsible management education in the context of the UN SDG agenda.
In doing so, Cass as a PRME Champion during the 2018-19 cycle, commits to working collaboratively on integrating the UN sustainable development goals into our curriculum, research, and partnership activities, as well as, collaborate with other Champion institutions on developing and disseminating a blueprint for socially responsible engagement with local communities.
Professor Paul Palmer added,
“Cass aims to share experiences from its practical approach to applying the principles of PRME and to enhancing the employability of our students through the showcase School Engagement Programme.
“This project sees second year undergraduate students on the BSc Management and Business Studies programmes study a Mentoring and Coaching module and apply their skills over a semester with at-risk first year students at Cass and pupils from underprivileged backgrounds in local secondary schools in London.”
