Cass alumnus Sir Stelios joins the Giving Pledge
Easyjet founder pledges half his wealth to charity
Sir Stelios Haji-loannou, Chairman and Founder, Easyjet, and Cass alumnus (MSc Shipping, Trade and Finance) has joined the Giving Pledge – the group of philanthropists led by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet who pledge to give the majority of their wealth to charity.
Each individual philanthropist choses how to spend their own wealth in a charitable way and Sir Stelios will give half his wealth to his own foundation, the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation.
The Foundation generously funds three scholarships at Cass each year for all finance-related courses. Each scholarship is worth a minimum of £10,000.
“Sir Stelios’s generous support of our students is very much appreciated. He models the best of dynamic philanthropy - making a positive, exponential difference through funding, inspiring and advising education initiatives at Cass, and beyond.
“Sir Stelios is a valued friend to Cass and an important member of our global alumni community. He is a regular guest at alumni engagement events in London and Monaco and our staff, students and alumni are always thrilled to meet him.”
Established in 2010, the Giving Pledge now has 168 signatories from 21 countries. Sir Stelios is the first Greek/Cypriot and the first resident of Monaco to join the group.
