Cass Business School and NHS collaborate on M&A improvement guides
Cass Business School collaborates with NHS Improvement to help healthcare providers with mergers and acquisitions.
Cass Business School has partnered with NHS Improvement and Aldwych Partners to produce resources for healthcare providers contemplating, planning or implementing a merger.
Many NHS trusts and foundation trusts are considering merging in pursuit of better integrated, higher quality, more cost effective care. These guides are based on advice from those who have already planned and implemented a merger.
The guides will help senior executives and clinicians decide whether a merger is the right choice to deliver improvements for patients, and if so how to ensure it is successful.
Academics from the Mergers and Acquisitions Research Centre at Cass together an executive MBA students interviewed 37 senior NHS executives who had led M&A deals and reviewed related best practice evidence from the healthcare and other sectors to create the eight recommendations for pre- and post-transactions that can be read in full in the report summary here.
Professor Scott Moeller, Director of the Mergers and Acquisitions Research Centre at Cass, said, "This was an opportunity for academia to bring its knowledge of both sector and general best practice in M&A deals to a review of deals completed within the NHS. The focus on the experience of the actual deal-makers has provided a very timely and actionable set of guidelines for future deals in the NHS."
You can access the all the guides, including the longer report produced for NHS Improvement on the NHS Improvement website.
