MBA students from Cass Business School in London get a taste for Middle East business world

For the sixth year running, MBA students from Cass Business School, City University London got the chance to meet some of the UAE’s most influential business leaders, allowing them a unique insight into what makes the country one of the world’s most dynamic economies.

Dubai, 23 February 2015:

The study tour of the UAE, led by Roy Batchelor, Professor of Banking and Finance and Executive MBA Dubai Course Director, covered both Dubai and Abu Dhabi and included visits to leading companies, high-level presentations and discussions, as well as meetings with respected business leaders from a range of industries.

During the five-day tour students met with leading UAE companies such as Mubadala Development Authority; Emirates National Oil Company; Abu Dhabi Investment Authority; Masdar Institute of Science and Technology; du; Emirates Airlines; JWT; and Nakheel. In addition to in-depth industry outlooks, the tour also allowed for interesting insights into local customs and culture. The delegation visited The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque, while also enjoying a desert safari and a trip up the iconic Burj Khalifa tower.

The delegation also attended a presentation at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) where prominent speakers such as Abdulla Mohammed Al Awar, Chief Executive of the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre and representatives from DIFC Authority, and Hawkamah discussed a range of financial topics including an overview of the DIFC; Dubai’s financial markets and financial services landscape; investment activity in the region; corporate governance and an introduction and overview of Islamic banking.

This tour provided our MBA students direct access to decision makers at the centre of one of the world’s most significant emerging economies, and provided fresh perspectives on the dynamics of doing business in the Middle East. It is through such visits and through such collaborations between academic institutions and corporations that help promote innovation, and serve as a platform for sharing industry insights that will eventually help meet the needs of the global marketplace.”

The 2014 Financial Times EMBA rankings placed Cass Business School’s prestigious EMBA course seventh in the UK and fourteenth in Europe. The Cass EMBA offered in Dubai is a flexible part-time course aimed at managers in the Gulf region who wish to accelerate their career development while remaining in full-time employment. The Dubai Centre was established in 2007 in collaboration with Dubai International Financial Centre, and has been home to over 400 executives and professionals studying on Cass’s internationally acclaimed EMBA programme.
