Cass Real Estate Society hosts sell out conference

It brought together students, professionals and experts from the global real estate market

The Cass Real Estate Society hosted a very successful one-day conference examining the effects of the financial crisis on the global real estate market last week.

The student led event which achieved sponsorship from UBS, Argus Software and Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP, generated great interest from various industry experts including property advisors DTZ and RREEF, the real estate investment branch of Deutsche Asset Management, who were all in attendance.

Dean of Cass Business School, Richard Gillingwater welcomed the packed auditorium of professionals, academics and students, and congratulated the Cass Real Estate Society for organising the conference. He said: "It is fantastic to see Cass students deliver such an informative conference with both high profile leaders in real estate and students all coming together for this event."

Cass alumnus Paul Marcuse, Head of Global Real Estate, UBS Global Asset Management, delivered the keynote speech discussing the impacts of the global financial crisis on the global real estate investment market. Outlining new trends, he stated that there is now "reduced competition and an increase in regulation" in the market. He also drew upon Asia and Australia having strong investment markets for real estate.

The event was attended by numerous journalists, including those from The Financial Times, Property Week and The Daily Mail. It also included panel discussions on the global outlook of real estate and the UK real estate development market focusing on the city of London.

Gergely Koos-Hutas, co-chairman of the Cass Real Estate Society said: "It was great to see so many Cass alumni reuniting for this conference. Many of the high calibre industry leaders we succeeded in getting to attend indicated that they would like to get more involved with Cass in terms of recruiting from here or giving lectures about real life cases to students. This has shown that as a society we were able to create such a positive outcome from this conference we put together."

The proceeds generated from the Cass Real Estate Society Conference will contribute towards a student scholarship for a MSc in Real Estate or Real Estate Investment programme commencing in the 2013/2014 academic year.
