The problem is not today, the problem is the future
Professor David Welbourn on the future of health care
An ageing population will put unmanageable strain on health and social care in the UK, according to Professor David Welbourn of the Centre for Better Managed Health and Social Care at Cass Business School.
Professor Welbourn argues that significant changes in competition, regulation and standards are paramount to the future of the health care system in the UK.
His arguments provide the backdrop for the Centre's annual debate to be held at Cass Business School on Wednesday 26 November. The debate will bring together practitioners and academics to discuss the future of health care and Professor Welbourn hopes the debate will "stop the increasing trend of jumping to conclusions and the sitting at one end or the other of a polarised debate."
"The reality is there is a lot of evidence that simply isn't informing the debate and we are very keen to bring together different perspectives and different views. Everywhere else in the business world the more perspectives you can bring around a problem the richer the solutions are."
