Cass students fund two new scholarships
Class of MSc 2011 raise the first student-led Class Gift
Generous Cass students have raised more than £1,800 to fund two new student scholarships.
Ten MSc students clubbed together to organise a series of fundraising activities as part of the newly-launched Class Gift campaign.
Class Gift, which is open to students and alumni, encourages a year group to raise a collective donation for a project of their choice within the School.
The students, who were the first to take part in the philanthropic drive, chose to fund a scholarship for two students starting this academic year.
School Dean, Richard Gillingwater, praised the students for their generosity. "I'm hugely grateful to all the students who have helped make their mark by giving something back to Cass," he said.
Through Class Gift, students can raise money to improve facilities on campus, support Cass research or fund a student scholarship.
By participating in the scheme it allows individuals to reinforce their relationship with other classmates and strengthen their bond with the School.
This is one of the first programmes of its kind in the UK and a unique way for students to leave a lasting legacy at Cass.
The fundraising activities organised by the students included a bake sale, sponsored run and a DJ night. They also raised awareness of the campaign by launching a Facebook page, publishing a YouTube video and carrying out class presentations.
Paola Barbarino, Director of Development at Cass, said Class Gift helps students to learn practical skills alongside classroom theory.
"As well as giving back to the School, Class Gift is a good way for students to develop the soft skills employers' value such as team building, communication, leadership and risk-management."
Students awarded the scholarship were selected from more than 160 applications and are due to start at Cass this month.
A new Class Gift campaign for MSc 2011 classmates is starting up in October. To get involved, please contact Cass Development at 020 7040 8674 or email@example.com
