Cass Masterclass in Moscow

Professor Igor Filatotchev delivers corporate governance lecture at the British embassy

Prospective students and alumni gathered at the British Embassy in Moscow on 16 February for a special masterclass delivered by Cass Professor Igor Filtatotchev examining 'corporate governance in the 21st Century'.

In just over an hour Professor Filatotchev took the audience on a whistle stop tour of the key issues in the field of corporate governance, drawing attention to the high-profile corporate failures which have placed governance in the business and academic spotlight.

It soon became clear that the scope of study in the field of corporate governance is very wide. Professor Filatotchev said: "One of the aims of my research is to provide some understanding that in a global market place there simply isn't a one-size fits all solution to corporate governance. Along with colleagues I've moved the study of corporate governance from being purely a finance issue by developing an understanding of its management and organisational aspects."

In his opening remarks Cass Dean, Richard Gillingwater, praised the numeracy skills that are the hallmark of Russian students which he said were a "real credit to the Russian education system." He went on to express his hope that more Russian students will come to London and take up the challenge of an MBA or an MSc course at Cass.

The masterclass in Moscow offered prospective students a chance to experience the type of lectures that they can expect to receive should they enrol on a course at Cass. This event was one of a number of similar events planned for 2011 with masterclasses also taking place in Berlin, Cardiff, Cologne, Frankfurt, London, New York and Paris.
