Cass students win Fidelity Stockpicking event
MBA students part of winning team at investment evening
Full time MBA students Rajat Bagchi and Amrita Tripathy were part of the winning team at the recent Fidelity Stockpicking event. Fidelity Investment Managers is one of the largest fund managers in the UK. Over fifty post-graduate students were invited to participate in an event designed to see if they could "match Fidelity's investment intelligence."
In teams of approximately eight the contestants had to analyse stock as of September 2010and produce
- A buy or sell recommendation
- An investment logic and valuation
- Description of the company and the business model
- An outlook on the stock
- One important question for the management
In only forty-five minutes the teams had to produce a pitch to present to the panel of judges, comprised of the Director of European Research at Fidelity and a team of European analysts.
Rajat and Amrita led the presentation and, once the winners had been announced, were praised by the Director of Investments at Fidelity for their investment thesis. It was revealed to Rajat and Amrita that the views of the Fidelity fund managers were in line with the students' recommendations.
Rajat said, "The experience was great and it was fantastic to win. Events such as this allow us to put theory into practice and it was very satisfying to know our conclusions matched those of industry professionals."
Course Director for the Full Time MBA, Dr Sionade Robinson said, "We are thrilled for Rajat and Amrita and very proud of their achievements."
