Cass team wins prestigious insurance research award

Recognition from leading insurance think tank

Sunday, 23 May, 2010

Cass academics Professor Chris Parsons and Dr Stanley Mutenga, together with MSc Insurance & Risk Management alumnus Faisal Baluch, have won the 2010 Geneva Association/International Insurance Society research award for their paper 'Insurance, systemic risk and the financial crisis'.

The Geneva Association (International Association for the Study of Insurance Economics) is the leading international 'think tank' for strategically important insurance and risk management issues. Its membership comprises a statutory maximum of 80 Chief Executive Officers from the world's leading insurance and reinsurance companies.

The US-based International Insurance Society, which partners the Geneva Association for the research award, has almost 1000 individual and corporate members representing global insurance leaders in 90 countries.

Professor Parsons said: The Geneva Association and IIS are highly influential in Europe and the USA respectively, and it is a great honour to have our work recognised by organisations with such a wide reach. Systemic risk is a hot topic among scholars and industry professionals at the moment. This award will ensure that our paper reaches a very wide audience and also reflects well on Cass.

The Cass researchers will receive their award and present their paper at the IIS Annual Seminar in Madrid, in June. The winning paper, which will be published in a special edition of the Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance, can be viewed via Cass Knowledge.
