Programmes with Cass will help small business owners develop their businesses

Tuesday, 27 July, 2010

Cass Business School and Your Business Your Future, the UK’s leading specialist in the design and delivery of programmes for ambitious owner managers, have launched an exclusive partnership to help small business owners grow their businesses and create jobs.
Vince Cable, Business Secretary, recently acknowledged that smaller businesses will be the engines of growth and job creation in the economic recovery.  The partnership between Cass and Your Business Your Future will provide a range of unique and transformational programmes to support the owner managers of such businesses through the different stages of growth and development of their businesses, enabling them to create more jobs and drive the economic recovery.
The programmes have been designed by Your Business Your Future specifically for ambitious owner managers.  They are highly practical and based entirely in the real world of the owner manager’s business. During the programmes, each participant works on their own specific opportunities and challenges, developing a growth strategy for their own business and a plan to implement that strategy.
Participants are supported through a wide range of resources, including an experienced business coach who works with them on a one-on-one basis and in small groups with other ambitious owner managers.  The overall aim is that every participant achieves a significant return on their investment by making improvements in their business and by actually bringing about a different and better future.
The Better Business Programme is a unique and sophisticated development programme for owner managers of established businesses, with turnovers between £0.5million and £20million who want to take their business to the next level. The programme will run for the first time in January 2011 and consists of six modules.
Foundations for Growth is for owner managers of early stage businesses, or businesses with turnovers of less than £0.5million, who want to put in place firm foundations to enable their business to grow. The programme consists of four day-long modules and will run for the first time in early 2011.
The programmes will be run in association with the Peter Cullum Centre for Entrepreneurship at Cass which was established in 2009 and is one of the largest centres of its kind in the world, providing support and funding to budding entrepreneurs with a focus on the service sectors.  As part of the Centre, the School also operates the Cass Entrepreneurship Fund, a £10 million investment fund providing finance for start-up and early stage businesses across the Cass community.  Participants in these programmes run in partnership between Cass and Your Business Your Future will be eligible for investment from the Fund.
In the last six years, over 600 owner managers have participated in programmes run by the Your Business Your Future team.  Many have gone on to expand their businesses and subsequently create thousands of jobs including such high profile business owners as Angus Thirlwell of Hotel Chocolat (the UK’s fastest growing independently owned business according the Sunday Times FastTrack 100 2008), Tristram Mayhew of GoApe (SME of the Year at the National Business Awards), Jon Thornes MBE of CoolMilk at School, Vivian Woodell of The Phone Co-op (one of the UK’s leading social enterprises) and Debra Charles of Novacroft.
Gerard Burke, Managing Director of Your Business Your Future said: "Owner managers are the unsung heroes of the UK economy.  At Your Business Your Future, we're passionate about helping ambitious owner managers create a different and better future for their businesses and for themselves, which in turn creates jobs, enhances local communities and ultimately transforms the economy.  We are absolutely delighted to partner with Cass.  Offering our transformational programmes through such a prestigious business school will enable us to help even more owner managers achieve their ambitions.  Together, we'll achieve something very special and vitally important."
Nick Badman, Chair of the Peter Cullum Centre for Entrepreneurship said: These exciting programmes are being launched at a critical time of opportunity for the UK SME sector.  The Your Business Your Future team is a proven delivery partner and this association will reinforce Cass’s position as a leading development and funding hub for entrepreneurs.
