Obituary Robert Shrager

Robert Shrager, Non-Executive Director of RAB Capital plc and a member of the Cass Alumni Board, died on 28 February 2009 after a long illness; he was aged 60.
Educated at Charterhouse School and St John’s College Oxford, Mr Shrager completed an MBA at Cass Business School in 1971. He went on to have a successful business career with the investment bank Morgan, Grenfell & Co (1973-88), before being headhunted by Dixons Group plc, where he served as Corporate Finance Director from 1988 to 1998. Mr Shrager also held a number of directorships, most notably with RJB Mining, which played a pivotal part in the privatisation of the coal industry and with the asset managers RAB Capital, where he had been a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee since 2004.
Mr Shrager, who lived with his family in Hampstead, was an active member of his local community. He sat on the Board of the Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, and was a former Chairman of the West London Synagogue. Mr Shrager was also instrumental in establishing the Jewish Community Secondary School, where he was Chair of the Governors; the school is due to open its doors to pupils in September 2010.
Robert Shrager is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and two sons.
