University of London institutions call for student support to tackle COVID-19 at start of the new academic year
Students asked to respect the government guidance on COVID-19 and to minimise transmission of the virus
With the new academic year about to being, leading institutions in London have asked students to respect the government guidance on COVID-19 and to minimise transmission of the virus.
The member institutions of the University of London have agreed to a joint statement for students reminding them of their responsibilities as many return or come to London in the coming days.
Professor Wendy Thomson, Vice-Chancellor of the University of London said:
“The University of London and its member institutions collectively account for over 100,000 students in and around the capital. They make a huge economic impact on the city, as well as bringing a vibrancy to many areas and contributing to multicultural life. But this year brings additional responsibilities for new and returning students and we wanted to send a collective message to that student community at this important juncture.”
The statement below has been agreed by the University of London institutions listed below.
“We are delighted to welcome students back to London for the start of the new academic year, whether they are starting their course or returning students. This year is very different for everyone. Across the entirety of the University of London federation, all have been working to fight the pandemic.
Many of the member institutions are directly involved in research to fight the virus, to advise on policy decisions or to train healthcare workers. We are all preparing to protect our students, or staff and our communities in London. We have put in place measures to minimise transmission of the virus on campus.
We ask our students to act responsibly as they start the new academic year and to be ambassadors for the University of London in areas where they live, socialise and study”.
