The three days of ceremonies, which were held at the Barbican Centre, celebrated the achievements of students graduating from City’s five Schools.

Cheriece who has also represented her country at The Commonwealth Games in Australia, said:

“I feel so happy, it was such a long time coming as I took a gap year half way through my first and second year to focus on my athletics. To finally graduate, get the certificate and wear the hat is a big moment for me!

“My plan is now to focus on my training for Tokyo 2020 to get into Team GB. I have also got a few business ideas, so hopefully I will be able to get those started soon.”

Proud twin sister Shannon, who will also be graduating from University East London on Thursday, said:

“I was so proud of her; all of her hard work has finally paid off and she was just waiting for this day to come.

“It is my turn to graduate on Thursday so we will swap roles and I cannot wait to wear the hat!”
