Scholarships in MSc Insurance and Risk Management providing invaluable support
Recipients of The Worshipful Company of Insurers scholarship share how it is supporting their journey at Cass Business School.
The WCI scholarship scheme was established in 2018 and has allowed its first two recipients, Duke Reid and Biray Kayhan, to pursue their dreams.
Mr Reid said prior to beginning his Master’s studies he had felt as though his professional learning and development was at a standstill.
“The WCI provided me with the career boost I needed at the right time,” he said.
“I have always embraced a challenge and have a true passion for continual learning and development, so being awarded the WCI scholarship has enabled me to pursue my dream of becoming a technical insurance risk management specialist.
“The WCI has also provided me with a mentor who works in the market and the support and advice I have received has been invaluable.”
In thanking the WCI and Cass for awarding him the scholarship, Mr Reid said he hoped to provide future students with the same kind of support he has found so helpful.
Fellow recipient, Biray Kayhan said he felt incredibly fortunate to be awarded the WCI Scholarship.
“It’s meant that I don’t need to undertake part-time work to fund my studies and that’s vital to me being able to focus my attention purely on this very demanding course,” Mr Kayhan said.
“The WCI places great importance on self-development and by supporting me through this course they are recognising the value of investing in future generations.”
Students considered for the scholarship are drawn from areas of the UK regarded to be relatively lacking in opportunity, and from homes where the income is lower than for median UK households.
Master of the WCI, Terry Masters said the Livery movement had a long history of supporting apprentices to learn their trade.
"The Cass MSc in Insurance and Risk Management provides a 21st Century equivalent," Mr Masters said.
“Through our Charitable Trust, the Worshipful Company of Insurers is delighted to provide sponsorship to those who may otherwise miss out on this opportunity.
“Cass MSc graduates demonstrate a commitment to the business of insurance and are a long way down the road to their professional qualifications through the substantial credits which they gain towards the examinations of the Chartered Insurance Institute, which itself has a long history of active collaboration with the Worshipful Company."
