Professor Steven Haberman receives prestigious US research grant

Project will bring together actuarial science expertise from Cass, UNSW and UCL

Professor Steven Haberman, Cass Business School, has been awarded a competitive US Society of Actuaries research grant, together with colleagues Dr Andres Villegas, University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Dr Maddy Bajekal, University College London (UCL) for their project an Analysis of Historical U.S Population Mortality Improvement Drivers since 1950.

Professor Haberman said he was delighted to receive the grant.

“The project plays to our strengths: we are a cross-disciplinary academic team with experience of working collaboratively at the intersection between social epidemiology and developing novel mortality modelling techniques to improve the understanding of drivers of mortality change.  This is an excellent opportunity for fulfilling our ongoing commitment to producing academically rigorous research that is at the same time practically relevant.”

The total grant amount is 65,000 Australian dollars and the project will be based at UNSW in Sydney.
