Executive MBA Alumnus awarded 2018 Cass WCIB Prize for ‘Shadow Banking’ Thesis
Barrie Ingman, a lawyer in the finance sector, has been selected as the winner of the Cass 2018 Worshipful Company of International Bankers Prize
The Worshipful Company of International Bankers (WCIB) have selected Cass Executive MBA alumnus Barrie Ingman as the recipient of the 2018 Cass WCIB Prize, in recognition of his “exemplary performance” at the school.
Mr Ingman was presented with the award by fellow Cass alumnus, WCIB Liveryman and Chairman of Events, Omiros Sarikas.
Mr Sarikas said Mr Ingman had shown great academic prowess in his studies at Cass and was a worthy recipient of the prestigious award.
“We are particularly pleased to award the Cass WCIB Prize to Barrie Ingman following his exemplary performance and Distinction in his MBA studies. Well done, Barrie.”
Mr Ingman’s thesis, entitled ‘Shadow Banking: The Benefits of and Pitfalls Associated with Policy Formulation and Legislative Implementation' was selected for its insight into an often misunderstood and largely overlooked yet integral part of the financial sector that directly impacts the City of London.
Upon receipt of the award, Mr Ingman said he was honoured to have been selected.
“It’s particularly gratifying as a lawyer to win an award in finance. It allows me to demonstrate my credibility across sectors and disciplines, both with clients and prospective employers.”
Cass experience key to success
Mr Ingman went on to describe his studies at Cass as “transformative”.
“I had found work as a lawyer in banking and finance was starting to lack edge and meaning and I wanted to become much more involved in front office initiatives rather than purely operating in a support and advisory capacity.
“Graduating from a challenging, rewarding and ultimately fun Cass Executive-MBA program gave me the knowledge, confidence and skill-set to shift careers and secure my current role: a client-facing position, which spans the entire spectrum of business discipline from strategy formulation, product idea-generation, sales, marketing and publication of thought leadership material, all whilst retaining my position as a practicing lawyer.

As part of the prestigious Cass WCIB prize, Mr Ingman now qualifies to enter the annual WCIB Lombard Prize competition, in which he could win an inscribed solid silver Armada dish, a 12-month honorary membership to the WCIB and a cheque for £1,500.
