Luis Juste OBE, awarded honorary doctorate at Cass graduation ceremony

Former Director of Santander Universities receives award for his significant contribution to higher education.

Cass Business School is delighted to confer the award of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) to Mr Luis Juste, OBE.

Luis has made a significant and lasting contribution to higher education, through his role as Director and Commercial Director of Santander Universities.

Established in 1996, Santander Universities is a long-term, strategic alliance that benefits students and university staff in communities across the world by providing scholarships, mobility awards, research grants and customer support.

It’s an honour to have Luis Juste join our esteemed list of honorary graduates. He is a passionate advocate of education and supporting our students. Under his leadership Santander developed many of the initiatives that have helped Cass and City to improve the experience of our students including community days, financial counselling, internships, mentoring and support for entrepreneurship and careers events.

About Luis Juste, OBE

Luis was born in Avila, Spain and graduated from the CEU San Pablo University, Madrid. He completed an MA in Economics from University College, Dublin.

Luis began his career with Santander in 1989 working within the Institutional Banking Sector in Madrid.  Following this he worked in different international managerial positions within the banking group including Trade Finance in London, Corporate Banking in Madrid and Small to Medium Enterprises in Portugal.

He joined the Santander Universities Global Division in 2000 where he was initially responsible for the development of activity within 11 countries in Latin America. He was then appointed as Director for Santander Universities in the UK in July 2007 and was tasked with establishing this new division.

Since his appointment the division has gone from strength to strength and the network now consists of partnerships with 72 universities and 50 university campus branches.

In April 2013, Luis stepped down as Director of Santander Universities UK after seven years to take up a new role as Commercial Director, Santander Universities Global Division.

Luis announced his retirement from Santander earlier this year but continues to work as a consultant on education and finance projects and to serve as a board member of institutions such as the Fundación Hispano Británica.

He was awarded an OBE for services to higher education in the 2016 New Year Honours.
