Dr Paolo Aversa and colleagues have won a research award for their paper on Formula One.

Dr Aversa and co-authors, Alessandro Marino, Luiz Mesquita and Jaideep Anand were awarded the SIIE-EBS Best Paper (Innovation Management) Award 2015 for their paper, Driving Performance via Exploration in Changing Environments: Evidence from Formula One Racing, published in Organization Science.

SIIE-EBS awards "outstanding scientific papers on innovation and technology management that combine cutting-edge research and high practical relevance, providing state-of-the-art insights".

Dr Aversa's research found that in the rapidly changing world of Formula 1 racing when the FIA regulation changes dramatically, a focus on improving existing technology rather than trying to invent the next best thing, is shown to yield greater success.

Dr Aversa said: “I am very happy about this award as it ultimately confirms that Formula 1, despite its undeniable idiosyncrasies, is a viable field to develop relevant and rigorous research.

"I am grateful to Cass and my colleagues for their always terrific support. I am excited to continue working on the promising research program this article initiated."
