Dr Peter England Receives Awards for Research and Innovation
Alumnus honoured by Towers Watson and the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
Cass Business School Honorary Visiting Senior Fellow and alumnus Dr Peter England has received the prestigious Syl Schieber Award.
He has also been made an Honorary Fellow of the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
The Syl Schieber Award was presented by Dr England's employer - leading global professional services company Towers Watson.
It recognises his fundamental contributions to property and casualty (P&C) reserving and other areas of P&C insurance risk modelling.
Dr England is the global product leader for Towers Watson's P&C reserving software.
He joined P&C consulting and software company EMB in 1999. The company became part of Towers Watson in 2011.
He has written numerous papers and articles on insurance subjects as well as developing new modelling and reserving methods. Much of this work has been in partnership with City University London Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Verrall.
Dr England gained his BSc and PhD in actuarial science from City University London. He is also a Chartered Statistician and visits Cass as part of his role as Visiting Senior Fellow.
He comments: "I was delighted to be elected an Honorary Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and to receive Towers Watson's Syl Schieber Award 2014 for research and innovation. I owe much to Professor Steven Haberman and Dr Arthur Renshaw of City University London who guided me along the research path as my PhD supervisors. In addition, collaborating with Professor Richard Verrall on several published papers has been a pleasure."
