"Analyse, reflect and diagnose"

Latest in Charity Talks series powerfully combines theory and practice

How can third sector leaders manage and motivate their teams?

Leeds MENCAP CEO Cath Lee and Cass MSc Academic Leader Atul Patel explored the question in clear and dynamic presentations at the latest Charity Talks.

The session, which formed the conclusion of the 2013/14 series, was chaired by Professor Ian Bruce, President and Founder of Cass' Centre for Charity Effectiveness.

Cath Lee shared experience gained during her time at Leeds MENCAP and in her previous role as the CEO of the Small Charities Coalition. In her presentation, she encouraged managers in the audience to "analyse, reflect and diagnose" the situation in their organisations. She also spoke candidly about the challenges and rewards involved in voluntary sector leadership.

Atul Patel responded by delving into the meaning of the term 'motivation'. He examined Cath's practical insights in the context of motivation theory, including Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

The event closed with a lively Q&A session and a networking reception. The next talks program is set to launch in October.
