Cass ranks highly in IDEAS banking research index

International rankings place Cass second in UK and 19th in the World

Cass has come second in the UK and 19th in the world for banking research in a global assessment of the top 10% institutions in the banking field.

In the ranking by author, Thorsten Beck, Cass Professor of Banking and Finance, was classed fifth in the world.

The rankings were released by IDEAS, a central index of economics and finance research.

The rankings are based on information from various sources including data collected by Research Papers in Economics (RePEc). RePEc is an economics research index which looks at the working papers, articles and software code of participating academics.

The news comes ahead of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) submissions at the end of the month. The REF is designed to assess the quality of research in UK higher education institutions.

Cass Dean Professor Steven Haberman said: "We are delighted that our banking research has been recognised in a global index which includes institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and Federal Reserve Bank of New York. These rankings are a testament to the hard work of my colleagues and a confirmation of our ongoing commitment to academic excellence."
