Students jet out to Dubai for new energy elective

MSc in Energy Markets covers energy supply and demand and geopolitics

Cass students jetted off to Dubai for the MSc international elective in Energy Markets held at the Dubai International Finance Centre.

Almost 50 MSc students across the Finance & Investment, Management and Insurance & Risk Management courses took part in the weekend, which also included a networking event at the exclusive Capital Club where students met with Cass MSc and EMBA alumni living in Dubai.

Michael Tamvakis, Cass Professor of Commodities, Economics and Finance delivered the new Energy Markets elective. It covers geopolitics and energy demand and supply economics across oil and refined products, natural gas, coal, electricity, renewable and energy derivatives.

Cass alumni, Fauziah Marzuki, an Export Oil Manager at PETRONAS, the Malaysian oil, gas and petroleum corporation, ended the elective with an overview of the energy situation in the Middle east (particularly oil and gas supply) as well as potential career paths in energy.

Commenting on the event, Marzuki said," The Energy Markets elective gives any student, from any background, a good grasp of this complex and dynamic industry. Coming in to talk to the students, I was able to share with them that how all the knowledge they've acquired from Cass can be applied into the energy industry is one form or another."
