New guide wraps up finance essentials for students and professionals
Cass academic Professor Scott Moeller has edited a newly published book titled 'Finance Essentials - The Practitioners' Guide'.
The 650-page book, released by Bloomsbury, brings together the fundamental concepts and principles of finance in a single reference guide.
Drawing on a mix of academic theory and real-life case studies, the book aims to provide a practical and in-depth resource for students and professionals working in the public and private sectors alike.
Professor Moeller, a former managing director at Deutsche Bank, uses his experience in business and academia to select the most essential finance concepts from across the discipline.
These include theories from some of the world's most respected academics such as Sendhil Mullainathan (Harvard), Dean Karlan (Yale), Aswath Damodaran (NYU Stern) and Meziane Lasfer (Cass).
The book contains more than 80 best-practice articles featuring guidance on issues ranging from risk management and capital structure optimisation through to M&A transactions and corporate governance.
There are over 65 checklists forming step-by-step guides to essential tasks, from hedging interest rates to calculating total economic capital.
The book also provides 55 carefully selected calculations and ratios to monitor firms' financial health and a fully featured business and finance dictionary with more than 5,000 definitions.
Professor Moeller is Director of Cass Business School's M&A Research Centre. He is the co-author of Intelligent M&A: Navigating the Mergers and Acquisitions Minefield (2007) and Surviving M&A: Making the Most of Your Company Being Acquired (2009).
