New scholarship set up in memory of Cass banking Professor
Shelagh Heffernan Scholarship will support BSc Banking and International Finance students
A new undergraduate scholarship has been established in memory of Cass academic Professor Shelagh Heffernan.
Awarded to the highest performing third year Banking and International Finance student, the Shelagh Heffernan Scholarship will contribute to keeping her memory alive by further strengthening the excellent course to which she dedicated so much of her life.
With the generous support of her former students, colleagues and family, the Scholarship has raised £16,000 to date.
"Professor Heffernan made an enormous contribution to Cass, City University London and the banking discipline through her widely published research, books and teaching," said Cass Director of Development and External Relations, Paola Barbarino.
"We hope this scholarship will support and inspire gifted undergraduate Banking and International Finance students for years to come."
Professor Emeritus of Money and Banking, Alec Chrystal, said: "Students who took Shelagh's courses will remember her best as a brilliant and dedicated teacher… Shelagh cared passionately about the quality of education and she dedicated her life to both teaching and advising those who came under her wing."
Trang Nguyen is the first scholar to receive the award. She said: "I studied under Professor Heffernan during my first term at Cass. She was a wonderful teacher and inspired me to pursue a career in the fascinating world of banking and finance."
