Cass alumnus takes on global challenge
Former student Paul Knighton competing in the Clipper Round the World yacht race.
Last week Cass alumnus Paul Knighton, MSc Insurance and Risk Management 2007, took his biggest risk so far when he set sail in the Clipper Round the World Yacht race.
Sponsored by Cass Business School his year long voyage will take him to far flung places such as Brazil, South Africa, Australia, China and Canada. The 18 man crew of Visit Finland are all amateur yachtsmen who have all undertaken a 32 day intensive sailing course to take part in the race.
When asked how he felt about racing for team Visit Finland Paul said, "Great! I am learning a little about Finnish culture and traditions from some of my fellow crew and I am sure I will be an expert after 12 months at sea.
"The crew is multi-national and working with different people from different parts of the world is something that I enjoyed during my time at Cass, and I am looking forward to using those skills again."
After leaving Cass Paul set up Lockton Cargo and Logistics division, which is now a major player in the London Marine Insurance Market.
Paul says "My MSc at Cass was instrumental in securing my success with Lockton. I found out after I joined the company that it was my MSc that made me stand out from all the other candidates and secured my employment".
