Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Accredits Cass

Thursday, 12 November, 2009

The Cass MSc Supply Chain, Trade and Finance has been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) recently, following the accreditation it received by the Institute of Logistics and Transportation earlier this year.

CIPS is the professional body for members of logistics, passenger transport, transport planning and related industries and is dedicated to supporting, developing and representing all stages of career development. It is recognised in Europe, Asia and Africa as well as in North America through its sister organisation, the Institute of Supply Management.

An important aspect of the CIPS accreditation is that students with at least three years work experience will be eligible for a MCIPS qualification along with their MSc in Supply Chain, Trade and Finance degree, thereby demonstrating both academic and practitioner competency to employers. Those without work experience can get obtain it after graduating, depending on the electives taken and their work experience.

Professor Mohan Sodhi, course director for the MSc Supply Chain, Trade and Finance said: This accreditation shows that, as a top-tier business school, Cass can not only provide an education that has a rigorous academic grounding but also one that is recognised by practitioners and employers as being pertinent to the immediate needs of industry.

Professor Costas Grammenos, Head of the Grammenos Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance, said: This is an exciting development for the Centre and for supply chain professionals.  This mutually beneficial partnership gets two birds with one stone; Cass students receive an additional qualification on graduation and the Institute obtains access to our excellent students at Cass.
