About
Overview
My research combines network theory and sociological arguments to appreciate the organization and functioning of markets—especially, markets for cultural products and labor. Throughout my work I emphasize the interrelationship of individuals, groups and social structures and try to detail the causal mechanisms through which organizational and social facts are brought about. To date, I have three interrelated streams of research: (i) studies of social structure and novelty emergence, where I see networks not only as a ‘stimulus’ for creativity but also vital sources of legitimation for new offerings; (ii) studies of socio-cognitive foundations of markets, where I emphasize how networks and culture shape and sharpen the categories which help producers and consumers to make sense of ‘what’s going on’ in the market; (iii) studies of competition, labor mobility and occupations, where I embrace a multilevel view to investigate mobility patterns and changes in the division of labor as markets transform over time.
