About
Overview
Alexandra Ziemann's research focuses on improving the scale-up, spread and sustainability of innovations in health and social care. Her current research investigates the influence of external contextual factors – such as cultural, socio-economic, political and health system factors – on the implementation of innovations, and the adaptation of innovations, that spread across countries. Her work focuses especially on improving the implementation of innovations in ambulance services. In her work, Alexandra is applying novel qualitative evidence synthesis, mixed method, realist, and systems thinking approaches. She is also interested in strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange across different sectors and scientific fields concerned with the diffusion of innovations. Alexandra is a board member of the European Implementation Collaborative.
Before joining the Centre for Healthcare Innovation Research at City, Alexandra worked at the Centre for Implementation Science, King’s College London and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration of Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) South London. She holds a PhD in public health from Maastricht University in the Netherlands and a diploma (MSc equivalent) in human geography from Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich, Germany. She combined her PhD study with a researcher’s post, working on a number of different projects, focusing on public health surveillance and emergency care improvement across Europe. She also held positions as policy advisor implementing cross-border emergency care between Germany and the Netherlands and as temporary advisor on evidence-informed policymaking for the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe.
