"Before the Millenium: From the City of London"

The First City of London Biennial Meeting discussed the role of London as an International Centre for Finance, Communications, Shipping and Insurance.

The conference was opened by The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor; with the Governor of the Bank of England. Mr. Eddie George, as its Keynote Speaker.

The event covered three days and attracted an international audience of over five hundred people including diplomats, academics and top level executives as well as students and graduates.

Topics discussed were 'Challenges and Prospects for Banking and Finance, The Shipping Industry, Electronic Commerce, City of London Markets and The Media in the Electronic Age

Key Speakers included The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor and Chancellor of City University, Professor David Rhind, the Vice-Chancellor of City University, The Rt. Hon. and Rt. Revd. Richard Chartres, The Lord Bishop of London, The Rt. Hon. Eddie George, PC, and Governor of Bank of England and Professor Leslie Hannah, Dean of City University Business School.
