Jim Vaupel

Jim Vaupel Professor James Vaupel studied mathematical statistics and public policy at Harvard University (Ph.D. 1978). After serving as a professor at Duke University, the University of Minnesota and the University of Southern Denmark, he became Founding Director of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock in 1996. He is a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, a scientific member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has been awarded the IPSEN Foundation prize for research on longevity, the Taeuber Award for biodemography, the Sheps award for mathematical demography and also the Seneca Medal for research on longevity.
