At Cass Innovate we opened our doors to a public of entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs and creatives interested in hearing and learning from entrepreneurs and innovators. Below are details of our inspiring programme of talks, workshops and panel discussions.

Session 1:

(A) talk - INJECT Launch: A


INJECT is a new digital toolkit for journalists. Use it to quickly and efficiently building news stories. Gather data and find verifying sources without changing tabs or leaving the document. Automatically expand the story further with additional content after publishing. Produce better news stories, faster. INJECT combines smart creative search algorithms and interactive features to discover, manipulate and present news content. The algorithms and features help journalists to discover new story angles, then use these angles to work faster. INJECT has been developed by an EU-funded consortium of leading digital and journalism organisations came together to deliver a step change in newsroom tools. The consortium will launch INJECT at #Cass Innovate 2017. Attend this launch to be the first to view INJECT, meet consortium members, and learn how to adopt the tool. K154

Neil MaidenNeil Maiden is Professor of Digital Creativity at the Cass Business School of City University London, where he is Director of the Centre for Creativity in Professional Practice. He is and has been a principal and co-investigator on numerous EPSRC- and EU-funded research projects, many of them interdisciplinary, with a total value of over £30m. He is currently the coordinator and a principal investigator of the EU-funded INJECT Innovation Action. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals, conferences and workshops proceedings. He was Program Chair for the 12th IEEE International Conference on Requirements Engineering in Kyoto in 2004, and is Editor of the IEEE Software’s Requirements column from 2005-2013.

Konstantinos Zachos

Role: Founder


Konstantinos Zachos is Research Fellow at the Centre for Creativity in Professional Practice, Cass Business School of City University London. He holds a PhD on Service-Oriented Requirements Engineering and Creativity from the School of Informatics, City University London, and a Diploma degree in Computer Science from RWTH Aachen, Germany. Konstantinos has been involved in research in the areas of computer science and creativity with a focus on designing and developing digital creativity tools to reinforce learning in creative problem solving and enhance creativity in business. Konstantinos’ current research focuses on intelligent digital support to improve the care of older people with dementia as well as to support journalists during the early stages of news story and feature development.

Jeremy EvansJeremy Evans is a journalist, entrepreneur, web developer and lecturer. He is Founder of, which uses interactive fact cards to make the news easier to read and quicker to write. He lectures in journalism and coding at City University of London, and teaches data and coding at Decoded. He was formerly a journalist at Tech City News and ITV News, and was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Media List Europe in 2016.

Claus Hesseling is a journalist and media trainer based in Hamburg, Germany. He teaches journalism for more than 14 years with workshops around the world and joined INJECT partner Interlink Academy in January 2017. Stephen Fozard is the Project Director for the Global Alliance for Media Innovation. This new initiative by WAN-IFRA, is an international alliance of innovation practitioners, media, research and innovation centres, and emerging technology entrepreneurs in the field of News Media. Stephen joined the Association in 2008 and has worked on several different projects over the years, namely Media Development programmes, event management and Legal Affairs. He has a Masters degree in Multimedia Law from the University of Strasbourg.

(B) Workshop - Hackable tools for solving space challenges


The occupiers and end users of any space are the people best placed to tell us how well it works and how it supports the activities taking place. Digital tools and technology can aid us in collecting these insights and help us to understand what is required for an environment to truly support the people wanting and needing to use it. As Designers and Design Strategists, we are constantly looking to other research and design processes for new digital tools which can give us snapshots into the minds and experiences of people who occupy the spaces we are analysing, in order to better inform the spaces and places we are designing. This workshop will introduce you to applications and tools which can help you to analyse the physical environments you inhabit, as well as the behaviours and processes taking place within your organisations and teams. We will showcase how to capture insights from end users and together we will co-create a mission to collect information on the physical environment around us. We will then launch the mission to collect data and observations in real time throughout the conference.

Hannah BeveridgeHannah is a Senior Associate and Senior Design Strategist at HLW. She has depth of experience in commercial interior architecture but more importantly broad experience engaging with clients throughout the design process. As a qualified Interior Architect and also with an undergraduate degree in Arts and Sciences Majoring in Psychology and Anthropology, Hannah has a passion for the “people side” of architecture and design. She has 10 years of experience analysing client’s needs, communicating these needs to teams of designers and engaging with clients throughout the design process ensuring the design solutions proposed align to their business objectives. Having recently completed a Masters of Innovation, Creativity & Leadership at Cass Business School, Hannah has a unique skill set enabling her to connect the dots between business strategy, process, people and space.

Jordan JonesJordan enjoys finding out what makes people, and businesses ‘tick’, he is a great people person and likes using both qualitative and quantitative tools in order to gather a wide range of data that can help the design team create engaging workplaces that are specific for our client’s needs. His passion is helping to create a workplace that can actively improve the productivity, collaboration and performance of a company whilst also enhancing staff retention and wellbeing. Jordan is a self-confessed data geek and technology innovator; regularly seeking out new ways to gather and review information about human behaviour and our interaction with the physical environment to make better informed strategic decisions.

(C) Workshop - Pitch like a pro!


Are you an entrepreneur who wants to perfect the art of pitching?

Pitching is scary and it takes a lot of confidence, creativity & improvisation: who can better teach you these skills than a professional actor?

This workshop will give you the chance to work with improv actors to develop your pitching confidence and play around with idea presentation. Through this session, you will engage with a team of like-minded fellows where each team will be helped by an improv actor who will share some techniques and tricks used in theatre to improve stage performance.

The team will also prepare a short pitch, which they will later present. By the end of this workshop you will be a more confident and creative public speaker. Intended to help entrepreneurs and business people who see presentation and pitching skills as key to their success.

Caesar Morales

Currently, Caesar Morales is a student in the MA Creative Writing (Playwriting and Screenwriting) programme at City, University of London. An alumnus of the University of Greenwich, where he studied Cinematography and Post-Production, he has been heavily involved in the arts and media industry for over seven years.

Caesar is a member of The Film Bunch here in London. The Film Bunch is a collaborative of both hearing and Deaf/Hard of Hearing filmmakers and artists. Out of 100 applicants, Caesar was selected as a City Spark 2017 -Top 10 Finalist, where he pitched his multi-media social enterprise idea, CREATURE.

Edoardo Faini Edoardo Faini is an MSc Entrepreneurship student at Cass Business School; he is currently starting his social enterprise, WOOLAND, an incubator for local independent arts and music in London. Along with an emerging career as a musician, Edoardo developed solid presenting skills, which granted him several awards, such as the 'Best Pitch Award' at the Cass Start-up bootcamp, a spot in the CitySparks Winter Marketplace final and an award at Queen Mary Social Enterprise Festival.

Andrew LynchAndrew is cofounder and chief operating officer of Huckletree, a London based workplace accelerator focused on assisting early-stage technology start-ups in creative industries. He acts at mentor and advisor to founders across a wide range of sectors, helping them with fundraising strategy, finance and business development. Prior to the launch of Huckletree, Andrew was a senior associate at global investment firm Cambridge Associates, where he advised some of the worlds largest pension and sovereign wealth funds on their private equity and venture capital investments. Previously, Andrew worked in the real estate acquisitions team at JP Morgan Asset Management in London, and in asset management at a private Dublin-based family office. He studied Construction Economics at Waterford Institute of Technology (Ireland), Quantity Surveying at Liverpool John Moores University, and he completed his masters degree in Real Estate Investment at Cass Business School in 2012.

Paul CookPaul is a serial entrepreneur who has recently switched from advertising technology to electric vehicles. His new company, EVR, aims to remove the barriers to EV adoption through a combination of rentals, flexible ownership, trusted advice and premium charging. Paul was an early internet pioneer, founding ad measurement company RedEye in 1997 when he was just 25 for which he was a semi-finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year. His last major venture, TagMan, spawned an entire new industry and grew to c100 people within 4 years. Paul was based in New York prior to his exit with TagMan and now lives in Surrey with his wife and 2 boys. Once described as a Champagne Buddhist, he is a regular mediator and active member of the Surrey Buddhist community. Paul’s first loves are cars and the environment, so his new business allows him to combine both of these with his 20+ years of commercial experience and technology knowhow.

Melissa Mitchell Melissa holds a BA in International Business and a Masters in Corporate Entrepreneurship and has over eight years experience in the graduate recruitment space. She is passionate about improving social mobility and has spent the past six years launching disruptive technologies to enhance student employability and provide equal access to career opportunities. After successfully launching the Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT) into over 40 countries for Bloomberg LP, she left her corporate role to found VOLO Group, a social enterprise that works in partnership with universities and charities to transform student employability and support career development.

June AngelidesA former Tech Banker, June Angelides is the founder of Mums in Technology, the first child-friendly coding school in the UK. June started Mums in Technology in 2015 whilst on her second maternity leave from Silicon Valley Bank, where she was working with some of the leading technology companies in the world. Conscious of the drop in confidence she experienced after her first maternity leave, June was determined to change her story the second time around. A lack of options for learning alongside her baby, led June to create a programme where mothers were able to learn about tech in an environment that allowed them to bring their babies.

Session 2:

(A) Talk - Networking: leveraging the power of reciprocity


Overwhelming empirical evidence shows that professional networking is crucial for career advancement, new business generation, and collaboration within and outside organizations. Yet, networking for business can also feel instrumental and “unauthentic”: what is the right networking style to build productive and meaningful professional relationships? In this workshop, I will illustrate three widely known networking styles (giving, taking and matching) and use group-based simulations to practice the principles of relational (vs transactional) networking. Relational networking is based on the principle of generalized reciprocity (vs tit-for-that reciprocity) and is more generative, meaningful, and learning-oriented than transactional networking. To conclude, I will illustrate how events and spaces can be designed, within or outside one’s organization, to embed the principles of relational networking in everyday work practices.

Santi Furnari Dr. Santi Furnari is a Senior Lecturer in Strategy and Deputy Director of the Centre for Research in Corporate Governance at Cass Business School, City, University of London. Prior joining Cass, he was an IRI Foundation Fellow at the University of Chicago and completed his Ph.D. in Business Administration at Bocconi University. He does research on the emergence of new industries and new work practices, on the design of business models, and on social networking and collaboration. His research has been published in world-leading academic journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Human Relations, Journal of Management, and Organization Studies (among others). He received the AMR 2014 Best Paper Award for his work published in the Academy of Management Review (the highest-ranked academic journal in management in the world). He has received the Cass Business School’ Staff Recognition Award for the outstanding quality of his teaching and has taught strategic leadership courses at the MBA and Executive MBA level. Dr. Furnari has also designed and delivered several Executive Education and Strategic Leadership programs for international corporations, including global banks, global executive search firms, and high-profile UK media and manufacturing companies.

Aurore Hochard After a rewarding career as a teacher and tech entrepreneur in the USA and UK, Aurore came back to the Education Industry to share her passion for entrepreneurship with Cass Business School Faculty, staff and students. As well as supporting students contemplating an entrepreneurial venture, Aurore enjoys working with small and large businesses. By creating and running entrepreneurship programmes and events, including startup weekends and hackathons, Aurore helps businesses be more competitive by fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and developing more ‘intrapreneurs’ in their organisations.

(B) Workshop - Bright Sparks: a digital tool for creative thinking


Businesses and teams seeking to enhance their creative thinking capabilities are faced with 100s of different creativity techniques. However, few of these techniques have effective digital support. This workshop presents a digital tool developed at City University, called Bright Sparks, which supports and enhances Hall of Fame, an established creativity technique. Hall of Fame guides individuals and teams to think creatively from the perspectives of famous people and roles. Bright Sparks enhances the technique by presenting well known personas along with creative role-play guidance for generating ideas in creative design tasks. If you bring your own device (phone, tablet etc) you could experiment with the live tool, in a group exercise with expert support.

James LockerbieJames Lockerbie is a Researcher in the Centre for Creativity in Professional Practice at the Cass Business School. He holds a Masters degree with Distinction in Electronic Business Systems from City, University of London. Since he joined the Centre in 2005, James has worked on many projects in the areas of requirements analysis and modelling, and creativity support, as part of the EU-funded APOSDLE, TRACEBACK, and CHOReOS project, and the SARA and RESET collaborations in air traffic management with the UK’s National Air Traffic Services. Between 2012 and 2015, he worked as part of the EU-funded COLLAGE project, to design and develop the BrightSparks creativity support tool.

He has worked at the interface of academia, healthcare and industry where he supported academic innovations and designed accelerator programmes focused on medical technologies. Szabi is a passionate advocate of innovation, design thinking, growth mindset and making collages.

(C) Workshop - Sketching for ideation


Sketching is a valuable visual thinking technique, offering extension of memory onto physical paper and freeing up space in the mind to re-represent ideas. Although the benefits of sketching are widely known, it is a technique which has the potential to be more effectively leveraged in many industries, and completely missed out from others. There is limited instruction for the application of sketching in problem solving, particularly in the critical phase of generating ideas where divergence should be maximised. This workshop offers both a method for approaching creative problem solving through sketching and instruction related to the technique of diagrammatic sketching, which differentiates sketching from drawing. The method is based on a variety of lightweight creativity techniques which facilitate idea generation grounded in research, offering direct evidence for design decisions. The method is easy to implement with minimal overhead, as only sufficient understanding of the problem space is required to apply the method. Attending this workshop will provide you will a framework for approaching creative problem solving and the confidence in your own skills to leverage sketching in the future. No longer will the excuse “I can’t draw” or “I’m not creative” be good enough. Anyone engaging in problem solving can benefit from unlocking the ability to leverage sketching and visual communication to aid creative thought.

Courtney GallagherCourtney is a Senior Experience Designer at Sapient, where she specialises in consulting projects within financial services and commodities. As an experience designer she believes in the user-centred process based on empathy and pushing the creative boundaries of the solutions we design to the best of our ability. She has a varied skillset including user research, conceptual design and prototyping, detailed design, and eliciting feedback from users throughout the design process. Courtney completed her MSc at City University London in Human-Centred Systems with a focus on sketching and creativity in her individual project dissertation. Her dissertation Sketching for Ideation: A Structured Approach for Increasing Divergent Thinking was accepted to the student research competition at the ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems 2017.

(D) Panel discussion - Next generation innovators


There is no doubt about it, recruiting and retaining digital talent is tough. The digital skills shortage is one of the biggest challenges organisations are facing, and as such has been high on the UK news agenda. The demand for digital talent exceeds the supply. And that imbalance will continue to grow. As a result, it may take an organization twice as long and cost twice as much to replace a digital leader in the near future. Furthermore the career path of digital talent within a corporate environment is less clearly articulated, or even thought through. During this session you will get to hear from the likes of Vodafone, DxC Technology and Jobbio on topics such as talent engagement and development within an innovative organisation. Daniel Searle Daniel Searle is DxC Technology’s first Chief Digital and Information Officer globally.  He works with commercial and public sector organisations to respond to the opportunities and threats created by the digital world. Most recently, Daniel played a major role in establishing Australia’s Digital Transformation Office where he was the Group Executive Director and Chief Strategic Adviser for Digital reporting to the Prime Minister.  He has over ten years’ experience advising Prime Ministers, CEOs and executive leadership teams in the UK and abroad. Daniel has an Executive MBA from Cass Business School, specialising in strategy, digital and finance.

Rachel Mooney Rachel joined Vodafone in 2010 as Head of People & Organisational Capability. She was appointed HR Director in Ireland in 2011 where she drove a cultural change leading to significant employee engagement improvements and winning a place in the Top 10 Great Places to Work award in Ireland before being appointed HR Director for Group Corporate Functions and Group Shared Services in October 2015.

Laura LevyLaura Levy is a careers and recruitment expert at Cass Business School where she supports postgraduate students in navigating their career goals. Over the past 6 years she has worked in emerging talent and experienced hire recruitment positions across Technology, Financial Services and Consulting sectors. Her experience is grounded in a broad range of areas relating to occupational psychology such as assessment and selection, learning and development and careers coaching. She is extremely interested in the future of work and what that means for the next generation of students in terms of new digital assessment tools, workplace automation and its impact on job opportunities and the skills they need to develop that will match what innovative companies are trying to achieve.

Session 3:

(A) Talk - Self optimisation and the stupidity paradox


In this workshop I will discuss why smart people do stupid things. In particular I will look at the typical intellectual traps which entrepreneurs fall into. I will also consider some potential ways which they can avoid these traps. During the talk, I will draw on my book ‘The Stupidity Paradox’, which was published by Profile in 2016.

Andre Spicer is Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Cass Business School, City University of London. He has studied a range of organisations ranging from large banks to small media collectives. He frequently appears in the international media to comment on business issues. He is author of 6 books, the most recent of which is the Stupidity Paradox.

(B) Workshop - Accelerated ideation and digital innovation


We are in the digital age and for organisations to remain competitive business problems are increasingly being solved by the application of new technologies. This is Digital Innovation and with increasing data being made available and the advent of the internet of things where everyday objects are connected the business opportunities are increasing. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to unleash your creative and entrepreneurial talents and contribute to the design of a Digital Innovation.  Will this spark your interest in a new business venture or will you discover that you have creative talents you didn’t know you had? Participants will face digital business challenges where in a facilitated environment using creative techniques they will create a novel digital concept and then bring this to life as a prototype. Imagine an environment where ideas flow and are selected based on business opportunity, concepts are created and pitched to the other teams all at pace and you get the picture.

A track record of delivering and commercialising cutting edge digital product innovation to the global mobile digital marketplace. He has led digital product innovation in a UK listed PLC and has built internal capability, platforms and organisation structures to enable future strategy and so understands how to deliver digital innovation effectively. He has a strong strategic knowledge of the global digital marketplace backed up with solid international consulting experience having lived and worked in Europe. Andrew successfully completed the Cass Business School Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership in 2015.

(C) Workshop - Punk innovation: seizing the future with scenario planning


This workshop explores how a simple scenario planning method can be used to envision radical and plausible futures. It is relevant for educators, executives and entrepreneurs who want to facilitate innovative thinking that is rooted in reality without paying a consultancy to help them. ‘The robots are coming!’ is an overused headline with which we’re all too familiar. The prevailing wisdom is that smart technology will take our jobs, rule our households, and consume our leisure time entirely. But it’s humans who will bring the robots, and it’s humans who will build the future (or destroy it, depending). By understanding more about the future promise and present-day limitations of in-vogue technologies, we can realistically consider how they could be used to solve unexplored problems to our benefit, rather than our detriment. In this session, Warrick Harniess will encourage participants to reject the zeitgeist and reinvent the future of a mega-industry that emerged in the aftermath of World War II. Following this practical and interactive workshop, attendees will have a Do-It-Yourself scenario planning toolkit that they can use with their teams, students and colleagues.

Warwick HarinessWarrick Harniess creates immersive learning simulations with a focus on strategy and enterprise creation, and leadership and entrepreneurship. Warrick established two pioneering online education ventures at Pearson before founding the learning and development consultancy Scandinavia Stories. Warrick’s clients include multinational organisations, universities, and SMEs.

Warrick established two pioneering online education ventures at Pearson before founding the learning and development consultancy Scandinavia Stories. (D) Panel discussion - Intrapreneurship, nurturing entrepreneurial talent within large organisations

Harry Scarborough

Harry Scarbrough is a Professor in Information Systems and Management. He joined Cass Business School in 2014, having previously been Director of the Management School at Keele University. Previous appointments also include Professor in the Information Systems and Management group and Associate Dean for Research at Warwick Business School. While at Warwick, Harry was co-founder of the IKON (Innovation Knowledge and Organizational Networks) Research Centre, and Director of a major ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) programme on ‘The Evolution of Business Knowledge.

Harry’s research interests span the fields of organization studies, innovation and information systems through a focus on the social and behavioural aspects of science and technology-based innovation. This includes work on collaboration between different professional/expert groups, and the role of social networks in supporting knowledge flows. He has played the role of Principal or Co-Investigator on major projects funded (to the tune of c. £2 million) by UK Research Councils, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and the National Institute for Health Research.

For the session at Cass Innovate, Santander has invited entrepreneur Paul Barham of Flight Club along to share his story of the challenges they faced and how they overcame them, along with how they took advantage of technical advances to become a successful and established business.

Since opening Flight Club Shoreditch in October 2015 over 14 million darts have been thrown by more than 150,000 customers. Flight Club has been awarded the Best All-In-One Venue in London in the 2017 Design My Night Awards, as well as the Most Loved Bar in Shoreditch and Hoxton in the Time Out Love London Awards 2016. On the 6th April they opened their second venue Flight Club Bloomsbury which has already seen critical acclaim.

(B) Workshop - Embracing uncertainty: feeling comfortable with “not knowing”


Life is evolving faster and faster. We are all facing challenges that we haven’t faced before. One of the main characteristic of these challenges is uncertainty, and the big emotional charge that “not knowing” implies: stress, anxiety, feeling lost etc. This requires to find ways to feel all this range of emotions and still do what we need to do. The challenge is: What does uncertainty mean to me and how do I handle it in an efficient way? Artistic practices offer the possibility to reflect on challenges from a felt experience perspective. This provides us with a perception of the situation rather than an understanding of it, allowing us to explore possible solutions. The aim of this workshop is to offer the participants an opportunity to experience an art based reflective process as a problem-solving resource. We will explore the following topics: What do I feel in uncertain situations? How do I react in uncertain situations? What alternative ways do I have to respond to uncertainty? The activities proposed involve pictures, drawing and body movement. This workshop is a means to have an experience, as such it’s unique and therefore the outcome will be different for each participant. Here are some of the benefits: Have fun. Discover their own natural resources to solve problems. Learn by observing others. Please come prepared with a photo that represents uncertainty, it can be a picture you find in a magazine, one of your photos, etc.

This experience, combined with a chemical engineering background, provided her with the ability to look at the business world from a variety of perspectives, in order to craft unique learning experiences. This is the workshop you are looking for. This workshop will explore some of the common traits found amongst entrepreneurs and what helps them succeed and scale to success. The workshop will also take a tongue in cheek look at parallels with some well-known fictional and non-fictional characters from megalomaniacs building death stars to trainee Jedis hoping to change the world. Pre- warning there might be some spoilers for those that haven’t seen Star Wars before.

Jenny Tooth

Jenny Tooth is CEO of the UK Business Angels Association, the trade body for angel and early-stage investing, representing over 18,000 investors around the UK. Jenny has over 20 years’ experience of facilitating SMEs’ access to investment, both in the UK and internationally. She ran her own consultancy on access to finance for SMEs, including spending nine years based in Brussels, working closely with the EC. In 2009, Jenny co-founded Angel Capital Group which incorporates London Business Angels, one of the most established and active angel networks in the UK.

Jenny is an angel investor and in her role at UKBAA she focuses on building the angel community around the UK, connecting investors to good deal flow and assisting entrepreneurs to attract investors. Jenny sits on the steering group for emerging technologies and innovations for Innovate UK and the advisory board for the London Co-Investment Fund. Jenny is an experienced speaker on angel investing and entrepreneurship both in the UK and internationally. She has an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Jenny was awarded an OBE in 2015 for services to small businesses.

Helen has board-level experience at a wide variety of high-growth UK businesses, including 3 years as a NED of IXICO, an AIM-listed medical image management and analysis business.
More recently, Helen has spent time working with Crowdcube on the London Co-Investment Fund, as well as with Grant Thornton and Clearly So, an impact investment advisory firm. Alongside her role with the Cass Entrepreneurship Fund, Helen is a non-executive principal at Larpent Newton, a fund management advisory business.

Jeff LynnHaving originally trained as a lawyer in the US and at Oxford University, Jeff Lynn moved from Sullivan & Cromwell’s New York office to its London operation in 2005. Jeff studied for an MBA at the Said Business School in Oxford. He and Seedrs co-founder Carlos Silva came up with the idea of establishing an equity crowdfunding business while at Oxford, believing that there was both unmet demand for investment in small companies and start-ups as well as an untapped supply of funds.

Jeff’s goal for Seedrs is to build a sustainable business that over time produces outstanding returns to investors. Seedrs has funded more than 460 deals to date and has had over £190 million invested on the platform. Jeff is passionate about establishing equity crowdfunding as a movement towards self directed investment and believes that the sector will be a £1 billion-plus industry in the UK alone within a short timeframe.

In December 2016, Seedrs published its inaugural Portfolio Update, landmark analysis validated by Ernst & Young, looking at the characteristics and performance of the 375 deals funded on Seedrs platform between its launch in July 2012 and September 2016. It shows that on a fair value basis, equity crowdfunding through Seedrs has produced better annualised rates of return (IRRs) than most other asset classes, with platform-wide IRR at 14.4% and 49.1% when impacts of SEIS and EIS tax reliefs are taken into account.

Oli Barrett MBEOli Barrett co-founded the national enterprise campaign StartUp Britain, schools competition Tenner, innovation agency Cospa and social enterprise Volunteer It Yourself. A regular MC and speaker at international events, he has led eleven trade missions to the US, India and Brazil helping British companies to explore business opportunities. Oli’s entrepreneurial career started as a student and has included an events business, an international language practice website and a sock subscription website. He is International Development Director at The Marketing Academy and sits on the advisory boards of the Centre for Entrepreneurs, Tech London Advocates, One Million Mentors, The Inspire Movement, and Founders 4 Schools.
