Dr Justin Davis-Smith CBE, Director of the Charity Master's Programme

Justin Davis-SmithJustin is Director of the Charity Master's programme and an Associate Professor in Voluntary Sector Management. He was previously chief executive of Volunteering England, director of the Institute for Volunteering Research and Executive director of volunteering at NCVO. He has over 20 years researching and leading in the voluntary sector and has advised the UK Government and the United Nations on the development of volunteering policy. He wrote the volunteering strategy for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and has published numerous articles and books on volunteering and the voluntary sector.

Dr Peter Grant

Dr Peter GrantDr Peter Grant is one of the UK’s leading practitioners in public and charitable funding.

He has published widely on philanthropy, CSR, and history (notably the period of the First World War). Peter's research and consultancy clients include government departments and charitable foundations.

Professor Paul Palmer

Paul Palmer Professor Palmer is a professor of Voluntary Sector Management and also a Director at CCE.

Paul has extensive knowledge of charity finance, management and governance issues. He was a member of the Charity Commission SORP committee from 2000-2005, and a Past President of the Royal Society of Public Health and a Director of the NCVO Trading Company.

Dr Angela Ellis Paine

Angela Ellis PaineDr Angela Ellis Paine is a Lecturer in Voluntary Sector Management at Bayes Business School. Prior to joining Bayes, Angela was a Research Fellow in both the Third Sector Research Centre and Health Services Management Centre at University of Birmingham.

Angela has been undertaking research on voluntary sector organisations, volunteering and participation for over 20 years. Her particular area of interest is in the idea of voluntary action as situated practice, and the intersection of individuals, organisations and institutions, and how multi-level contexts interact to shape the spaces of participation

Dr Haseeb Shabbir

Haseeb ShabbirDr Haseeb Shabbir is a Reader in Voluntary Marketing and pathway led for the MSc in Charity Marketing and Fundraising at Bayes Business School. Prior to joining Bayes, Haseeb was a Course Lead for undergraduate marketing programmes at Huddersfield Business School, and began his academic career at University of Leeds with a PhD in Charity Marketing. He has experience in academic leadership, research and executive training.

Haseeb's research spans across commercial and the voluntary sector but a common thread remains ethics and responsibility, especially with communications. He had a special interest in inclusive communications in fundraising and has served as a plenary and guest speaker at multiple fundraising platforms. His work on fundraising has appeared in leading marketing outlets and he sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Philanthropy & Marketing and the Journal of Nonprofit  & Public Sector Marketing.

Dr Rick James

Rick JamesRick James has more than 25 years’ experience working with NGOs in Africa, Latin America and Europe. He has worked with INTRAC since its inception more than 20 years ago. He focuses on organisational change specialising in strategy and leadership development. He has consulted for more than 100 NGOs, faith-based organisations and official aid agencies, and has published over 50 articles and books. He has a PhD in NGO Management from City, University of London and is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Faculty of Management at Bayes Business School. Rick teaches on the CCE's MSc NGO Management.

Stephen Lee

Stephen LeeStephen Lee is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Voluntary Sector Management at the Bayes Business School. He is the Course Leader MSC in Non-Profit Fundraising & Strategic Marketing and teaches Fundraising and the Law, Fundraising Ethics and Fundraising and Marketing Strategy.

He has been College Secretary at Henley Management College and Faculty Director Strategy and Lecturer of Marketing at Henley Business School where he also established and ran the Centre for Voluntary Sector Management. Stephen Lee entered the voluntary sector in 1982 as Deputy Chief Executive at the Charities Advisory Trust and Directory of Social Change.
