The Accounting Group at Cass Business School is one of the leading research groups in accounting in Europe. Our commitment to research excellence is evident in our exceptional track record of publications in top accounting journals including the Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies and Contemporary Accounting Research. We are at the forefront of accounting research in areas such as accountability and governance, corporate communication, financial reporting, audit, security valuation, and financial intermediation. Centre for Financial Analysis and Reporting Research (CeFARR)
The Centre for Financial Analysis and Reporting Research (CeFARR) is the Accounting Group’s research hub. CeFARR works in collaboration with practitioners to develop cutting-edge research, tailored consulting and specialised training in the areas of corporate communication, corporate disclosure, audit, financial reporting, security valuation, and financial intermediation. The Centre is at the forefront of modern accounting and capital markets research and actively engages with the practitioner community via conference presentations, research and consulting work, and bespoke training.

The Accounting Group at Cass Business School is committed to excellence in teaching with our staff consistently rated as ‘excellent’ by students at undergraduate, postgraduate level and executive education level. The Accounting Group runs the following two degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level:
The BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, which runs in strategic partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), was ranked as the best undergraduate degree at Cass Business School in 2015 placing it among the top undergraduate degrees in its field in the UK. Graduates from our BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance and our MSc in International Accounting & Finance degrees are subsequently employed by top accounting and finance firms worldwide.
Each term, the Accounting group organises seminars, inviting leading scholars from around the world to share their current research.
PhD in Accounting
The Accounting Group at Cass Business School offers an internationally recognised PhD in Accounting programme. We offer a stimulating learning and research environment and the PhD programme is supported by leading experts in areas of financial accounting and capital market research. Our researchers routinely publish in top accounting journals including the Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies and Contemporary Accounting Research, and the research is often quoted in the financial press (e.g. The Financial Times, The Economist, and The Wall Street Journal).
PhD students have access to the state of the art research infrastructure, computing equipment, and extensive library resources. Cass Business School offers access to a wide range of databases, including Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters EIKON, WRDS, DataStream, Thomson One, and others. As a PhD student, you will be encourage to present your research at leading international conferences in the UK, the US, Europe and Asia. As part of the PhD programme, we also encourage research visits to top US and European business schools, including Harvard Business School, New York University Stern School of Business, Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, and University of Cambridge. Cass Business School's most recent graduates have been hired by Penn State, London School of Economics, University of Paris and the Bank of England.

You will work alongside a diverse faculty of PhD students and international academics to develop cutting edge research with impact on the academic and practitioner communities. You will develop high-level skills of analysis and appraisal, learn to use a range of research methodologies, and participate in leading international research conferences.
