Research Centres at Cass

Most Cass Business School Research Centres and Institutes are inter-disciplinary with membership across faculty. Some, however, have clearer boundaries which enable their categorisation under Finance, Management and Actuarial Science and Insurance.

Finance

Behavioural Finance Working Group (BFWG)
Director: Professor Gulnur Muradoglu
Behavioural finance is a truly interdisciplinary field at the cross section of finance and psychology, with linkages to economics and sociology. It studies human behaviour, its reasons and its implications in finance.

Centre for Asset Management Research (CAMR)
Directors: Andrew Clare, Aneel Keswani, Stephen Thomas
The centre provides a stimulating environment where academic theory can be discussed as readily as the latest trends, products and developments in the asset management industry. The Centre's activities are aimed at encouraging this relationship between theory and practice.

Centre for Banking Research
Director: Professor Shelagh Heffernan
The purpose of the centre is to promote high calibre academic research in the field of banking and to foster the teaching of banking subjects to a high standard.

Centre for Econometric Analysis (CEA@Cass)
Director: Professor Giovanni Urga
Promotes and supports research by leading researchers in econometrics (methodological and applied, macro and micro), financial econometrics, and other quantitative methods used in finance.

Emerging Markets Group (EMG)
Director: Professor Kate Phylaktis
Provides a forum for research and exchange of information on foreign exchange and financial markets in emerging economies.

Pensions Institute
Director: Professor David Blake
The Pensions Institute (PI) is the first and only U.K. academic research centre focused entirely on pensions research. The purpose of this centre is to serve as a clearinghouse for information on pensions, with particular emphasis on the U.K. system, and to publicize PI research and activities.

Cass Private Equity Centre (CPEC)
Director: Professor Mario Levis
The Centre aims to promote understanding and provide evidence of the key issues and challenges facing participants in the private equity industry through research enriched by close working partnerships with private equity firms and their representative bodies, institutional investors, regulators, corporates, trade unions and international leading academics.

Research Centre for Real Estate Finance
Director: Professor Tony Key
Conducts research in real estate investment and the commercial property market together with leading figures in the industry.

The Costas Grammenos International Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance
Director: Professor Costas Grammenos
Facilitates international dialogue between industry, government and academic leaders, and undertakes applied research.

Management

Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy
Co-Directors: Professor Jenny Harrow and Professor Cathy Pharoah
Aims to build a better understanding of charitable giving and philanthropy for donors, charities and policy-makers; and to promote the strategic role of philanthropy in meeting today’s social needs.

Centre for Charity Effectiveness
Director: Professor Ian Bruce
Provides a unique centre of excellence in Europe with a mission to increase the effectiveness and achievement of voluntary and community organisations.

Centre for Leadership, Learning and Change (CLLC)
Director: Professor David Sims
The Centre brings together the worlds of practice and theory with the aim of transforming the way we understand and develop leadership in the 21st Century.

Centre for New Technologies, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CENTIVE)
Director: Professor Chris Hendry
Bridges the technology/business interface by focusing on science-based sectors and key issues that exercise practitioners, policy-makers and academics

Centre for Professional Service Firms
Director: Professor Laura Empson
Established in October 2008, the Centre for Professional Service Firms at Cass Business School is dedicated to researching Leadership and Change in professional service firms and facilitating the development of the professional service firm of the future.

Centre for Entrepreneurship (PCCE)
Director: Professor Nick Badman
Established in July 2009, The Peter Cullum Centre for Entrepreneurship works with nascent and established entrepreneurs in the Cass network to help them develop and realise their business vision. The new Cass Entrepreneurship Fund will operate in conjunction with The Centre and be accessed through it.

Centre for Research in Corporate Governance
Director: Professor Igor Filatotchev
Carries out multi-disciplinary research into corporate governance at National, European and Global levels.

Centre for Research in Asian Management
Director: Professor Chris Rowley
Promotes, conducts and publishes research into Asian business and management locally, regionally and globally. Research is conducted in mult-disciplinary and collaborative international networks of leading experts from around the world.

Film, Media and Entertainment Research Centre (FMERC)
Director: Professor Joseph Lampel
Complimenting the prestigious Film Business Academy, the Centre works with the film industry to analyze current practice, develop new ideas and explore the latest trends in markets, new technologies, convergence and global media strategy.

Inter-disciplinary

Centre for Financial Regulation and Crime (CFRC)
Director: Dr Chizu Nakajima
Promotes and conducts research and teaching, across a broad spectrum of disciplines, in the area of financial services regulation and financial crime control.

Mergers and Acquisitions Research Centre (MARC)
Director: Professor Scott Moeller
The first centre at a major business school to pursue leading-edge research into the global mergers and acquisitions industry.
MARC blends the expertise of M&A bankers, lawyers, consultants, accountants and other key market participants with the academic excellence of Cass to provide fresh insights into the world of dealmaking.

Sports Business Network (SBN)
Director: Professor Stefan Szymanski
A leading intellectual resource for organisations involved in the commercial and business aspects of sport. It also places these commercial dimensions in a broader social context, making it a resource for government and public policymaking.
