Mission & Objectives

The mission of the Centre for New Technologies, Innovation and Entrepreneurship is to carry out research on new technology industries, and improve our management of such industries through better understanding of the dynamics of innovation, growth and change.

By pursuing common thematic issues in relation to a defined set of technologies, we deepen our knowledge base around these and so enrich specific research findings, at the level of the firm, cluster, industry and wider economy.

This mission translates into a set of research objectives, concerned with:

Clusters

To identify and evaluate the sources of competitiveness in new technology industries by studying the structure, dynamics and evolution of clusters and related networks, and to foster creative solutions to the managerial and organisational challenges of managing these relationships.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

To contribute to the understanding of innovation problems and issues in new technology industries and those they impact on, and to promote entrepreneurial solutions to these.

The Creation of Intangible Value

To highlight the role of intangibles in adding value, and how such value can be created, measured and managed

Skills

To identify the skill needs arising from these new technologies across a range of sectors, and for innovation and entrepreneurship generally, and to advise how such skills can be developed to meet changing market requirements.

Social Change

To assess and predict the impacts of new technologies in stimulating social change, and to help government and organizations respond to these.
