SII announces winner for 2005 Tuesday, 20 December, 2005 The Securities & Investment Institute (SII) has announced the winner of the Stephen Cooke Scholarship. Sebastian Jones, 23, has been awarded the Stephen Cooke bursary of £9,000 which will enable him to undertake the MSc in Investment Management at Cass Business School. Stephen Cooke was a member of the Board of the Securities Institute, of the London Stock Exchange and of the Association of Private Client Investment Managers (APCIMS). He was Chief Executive of a leading private client firm, Gerrard Vivian Gray. Stephen Cooke tragically died young in 1997 following a long illness. His particular passion was education and to keep his name alive, his friends and business associates raised funds to provide scholarships to students who are considering careers in the financial services industry. Sebastian, originally from the Isle of Wight, was one of four candidates assessed by the Stephen Cooke Scholarship panel of trustees. Each underwent tests and a panel interview. He has a BSc in Geophysics and has worked for four years as a trader’s assistant with a firm in Shanklin, Isle of Wight. Simon Culhane, Chief Executive of the SII said: “The panel was very impressed with the quality of the candidates. But Sebastian showed a broad and deep understanding of current financial and economic issues. The panel was unanimous in its decision to award this inaugural scholarship to him.” The trustees will arrange for Sebastian to meet a mentor on a regular basis. He will also meet the members of the SII Board of Directors to discuss his dissertation, which will be published in Securities & Investment Review magazine. Links |
