Merrill Lynch Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Programme

Cass hosts summer school for ‘Gifted and Talented’ pupils

Monday, 4 September, 2006

Cass Business School recently hosted the ‘Merrill Lynch Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Programme’, a summer school which takes place over two weeks, welcoming pupils on the 'Gifted and Talented' programmes from six Tower Hamlets schools.

The summer schools, delivered by Young Enterprise, form the final part in this year-long programme, and enable the pupils to develop their business skills and knowledge. Students work in groups and the activities are developed specifically for students in two groups aged 12-15 and 15-17.

Staff from Merrill Lynch have worked on a voluntary basis with the students throughout the last academic year, often at the Merrill Lynch offices, where they have undertaken sessions including enterprise, project business, financial literacy and study skills, and communication.  This year, volunteers from the Bank of New York also worked with the students.

Mike Tyler, Director of the Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership comments: “This is the fifth year we have been running the programme at Cass.  It is a successful scheme because it gives young people from inner city environments an early, first hand experience of being students at a university, and a taster of the business world.”
