Banking Matters at Bloomberg Professor Andrew Clare chairs panel discussion on graduate opportunities in the finance sector The economic crisis has prompted a surge in applications to courses at all business schools, but what are the job opportunities for students who are on the cusp of starting their careers? To answer this question, Andrew Clare, Professor of Asset Management at Cass Business School chaired a panel discussion hosted by Bloomberg at their headquarters in the City. The theme for the event was: “What do the ‘green shoots’ of economic recovery mean for employment and graduate opportunities in the financial sector?” The panel comprised senior figures from across the banking and finance sector and they answered business, recruitment and career-focused questions submitted by students from Cass Business School, City University, and over 20 other academic institutions. Ex-MPC Members urge the Bank of England to extend quantitative easing Former Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) members Dr DeAnne Julius, Professor Charles Goodhart, and Professor Willem Buiter all urged a continuation of the quantitative easing programme at Fathom Consulting’s Monetary Policy Forum (MPF), hosted at Cass on Monday 2 November. Fathom have teamed up with Cass to host the MPF which brings together experts and opinion-formers from across the business, financial and political spectrum. It has been established to provide a rigorous, objective and constructive external cross-check on the Bank of England and its Monetary Policy Committee. In doing so, it aims to challenge the orthodox thinking that dominates the Bank of England, and UK economic policy-making in general. |
