The real world nature of the Actuarial Science programme is fully reflected in the teaching. The course is delivered through interactive lectures and seminars and a proportion of the assessed work is based on team assignments. Workshop sessions and city practitioner contributions focus on key applications of knowledge in the professional environment and further increase the intensity and practical relevance of the course.

The Faculty of Actuarial Science and Insurance, which became part of Cass Business School in August 2002 is one of the world's leading academic centres in this field. established in 1974 as the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance within City University, it was developed with the direct support of the actuarial profession and insurance companies. The Faculty now benefits from a strong and long-standing relationship with the profession.

The Faculty has expertise across the actuarial spectrum with qualified actuaries within its academic staff. Current research interests include pensions, social insurance, general insurance, life insurance, asset-liability modelling and solvency, option pricing, graduation theory, mortality and morbidity, econometrics, insurance reserving, and actuarial applications of generalised linear models.

The Faculty of Actuarial Science and Insurance provides much of the course teaching input. where appropriate, teaching is also provided by the Faculty of Finance and the Faculty of Management in Cass Business School.
