Applying for funding

Before you apply:

Contact us

to discuss the budget for the project. We will advise on eligible costs and calculate the staff salary and other costs of the project using Full Economic Costing (fEC).

If you are applying for funding from the Research Councils, the EU, the Royal Society or the Leverhulme Trust, we will help you set up an account with electronic submission forms and will fill out certain parts of the forms.

We will give you general guidelines of how to structure your proposal, review it and give you feedback.

We will give you information on reviewers' criteria and expectations.

We will advise you on research ethics procedures.

An application should then be sent to the Research Grants and Contracts Office at City University at least five days before it needs to be submitted to the sponsor. This ensures that there is time for the project costs to be checked and for any contractual issues arising at this stage to be discussed.

The application must be accompanied by the University's AGC form which must be completed for all research grants and contracts applications. The AGC provides a checklist of questions that should be asked when submitting an application. It should be sent to the Research Office following approval by the Dean of School. As this form requires signatures, it cannot be submitted online.

Please note that an individual costing given by telephone or face-to-face does not constitute approval of an application - the full AGC form still needs to be submitted.

After being awarded funding:

We will check and have your research contract/research funding agreement signed

Please note that the contract/agreement is between the funder and the University and therefore the contract is signed by the Research Grants and Contracts office, not you.
