About the Film Business Academy

The Film Business Academy was launched at Cass Business School London Monday 11 July 2005. It is the first dedicated film business centre in the UK for film studies and received £1million in funding over two years. The Film Business Academy is endorsed by the UK film industry to provide the best film studies education and skills development for the future workforce.

"The Film Business Academy will provide much needed support and development for the distribution and exhibition sectors whose importance - in terms of skills and training - are too often overlooked. Both are fundamental to the durability of UK film at home and abroad." Steve Knibbs, Chief Operational Officer, Vue Entertainment

The Film Business Academy is one of the seven institutions that form the Screen Academy Network, a concept driven by educating and training talent in the audio-visual industries. The network was officially opened in partnership with Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for broadcast, film, video, interactive media and photo imaging.

The seven-strong Screen Academy Network in England, Scotland, and Wales have exclusive use of the Skillset 100, a database resource of 100 top industry professionals committed to sharing their knowledge and expertise through master classes, workshops and guest lectures. The institutions work together to provide film studies courses, summer schools, work placements, bursaries, online learning resources and a talent scout programme to develop the brightest and the best from the next generation.

"The Film Industry is to be applauded for this ground breaking initiative. Congratulations to Skillset, the UK Film Council and the industry on a truly visionary achievement." Phil Hope, UK Minister for Skills

The Film Business Academy is supported by Skillset and the UK Film Council as part of the Film Skills Strategy.
