Background

Prior to joining City University in October 2002, Dr Hakimian worked for London University for 14 years, where he has had a long standing involvement with the development, management, direction and leadership of two innovative and award-winning postgraduate international distance learning programmes at Masters level. One of these, which he directed at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), was awarded the Queen's Award for Further and Higher Education in 1996. Dr Hakimian's specialism is in the area of Development Economics with special reference to Middle Eastern economies. He has taken particular interest in economics of human resources and globalisation. He is the author of Labour Transfer and Economic Development and co-editor of The State and Global Change, and Trade Policy and Economic Integration in the Middle East and North Africa. He has published in various academic journals and acted as consultant to several international institutions and aid agencies such as the World Bank, the ODA, Ford Foundation, Sida, and Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). He is active in the Middle East Economic Association of the USA and is a member of its Board of Directors.
