BackgroundHe started his career as an assistant professor at the University of Rome (microeconomics and monetary economics). His PhD dissertation draft earned the first prize offered by the Italian Central Bank for the best unpublished work in finance and monetary economics. Chairman of the prize jury was Franco Modigliani.
Giorgio joined IMI (now SanPaoloIMI) where he held several senior positions, including: (a) head of research, and (d) CEO of IMI International.
IMI International had equity in excess of $1 billion and employed over 1,100 people (mainly in London, New York, Luxemburg). The dominant areas of activity were: investment banking, securities trading, and asset management. IMI Int. had over 50 research professionals
After leaving banking in 1995, Giorgio returned to teaching (postgraduate level), research, and consulting. He has published a number of articles, and the book Fixed Income Analysis for the Global Financial Market (1999) John Wiley - Frontiers in Finance. He is currently working on a new book on Derivatives and Financial Risk Management.
He has been a consultant to a number of companies, including Accenture.
He held Visiting Professorships at Venice International University, George Washington University Graduate School of Business (Washington DC), Fordham Graduate School of Business (New York).
