The Centre's first MSc course, MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance, was introduced in 1983 and launched in 1984. It aimed to produce the next generation of business people and researchers for the shipping, trade and finance industries. Because the Centre's teaching was relevant to a far wider business audience, this first MSc was followed by MSc in Energy, Trade and Finance in 2003
Through its unique blend of theory and practice, the Centre has gained international recognition among industry leaders, government figures, senior academics and its graduates and students.
Students are given the opportunity to mix with, and even present to, business via a busy schedule of industry events throughout the year. Students are also able to apply for a generous selection of scholarships and prizes.
Methods of Teaching
The Centre's has always interrelated theory and practice, creating a bridge between academia and business. Close proximity to the City of London has enabled strong links with City businesses and institutions.

- "The Global Approach" - A new approach to international business, where decisions are based on both internal and external parameters; and its teaching combines theory and practice.
Teaching of the two masters' programmes is undertaken primarily by the Centre's staff, with support from other members of Bayes faculty and highly qualified industry practitioners.
Research is incorporated into real business and theory, and case studies are often discussed alongside presentations by students.
